A Heart Full of Thanks

Last Friday, 16th December, 2022, I successfully defended my thesis at the Lagos State University Postgraduate School, earning me a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Communication Studies.

Over five years ago, when I started on this journey at the Bayero University, Kano, nothing prepared me for the onerous task ahead. This programme took from me, as much as it gave me. It has taken so much commitment, resilience, discipline and self-denials including sacrificing my almost non-existent social life. Never in my life had I read as much as I did and written as much as I did while on this programme. Through it all, I came out a better person, with an unquenchable thirst for learning.

I am not one to deny my privileges, which came in form of an incredible husband, an amazing supervisory team led by the erudite, affable and compassionate Professor Lai Oso, and a supportive system at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Lagos State University, which allowed for the actualisation of this dream. AlhamduliLlah for the physical, mental and financial capacity to complete this journey.

This is Khadijat Adedeji-Olona, PhD.
